Samsonite, the 100 year old global luggage super brand, owes its start to a modest, entrepreneurial Colorado native, Jesse Shwayder.
Growing up in the frontier town of Denver in the American West, the wild and mountainous land of opportunity, risk and speculation, Shwayder learnt the basics of trunk making in his father’s general store. During this time, he identified a growing demand for luggage as more and more people traveled from coast to coast seeking their fortunes.
The 1970s, 80s and 90s saw increasing Samsonite sales expansion into most developed countries across the world and some of the most ground-breaking innovations in the history of luggage development. These included the launch of the first Oyster suitcase in the 1980s, now one of the most popular hardside suitcase designs in the word.
